President’s Message
“I am very honoured to be the sixth president for the Biorisk Association of Singapore (BAS). I remember Dr. Ling Ai Ee very well, who conceptualized the formation of this society – a very dynamic personality whom I interacted with upon my return to Singapore after my overseas postdoctoral training. My biosafety journey started when Singapore went through the first SARS crisis in 2003. The newly discovered virus was classified by the World Health Organization to be of biosafety level 3 (BSL3). Since then, I have undergone training on biological risks covering BSL2, BSL3 and up to BSL4.
Today, the Biological Agents and Toxins Act governs the regulation of biological agents and toxins that could pose public health risks. Singapore has rapidly progressed in the area of Biorisk training with certified courses at the National University of Singapore. My vision for BAS is to carry on the torch that previous presidents had ignited – to strengthen Singapore in Biorisk practices by working with fellow committee members. I hope to get your support to join me in this endeavour.”
Regards,
